Richmond, seeing the arrival of new industrial plants, is described as the factory city of the Bay, and is drawing a growing population. "Many people with money are moving here and making this their permanent home just to be in a live community with a future." — Jan. 6

Pacific Union Club chambermaid Mary Wurtenberg is suing Pierre C. Moore for sexual assault. Moore, who was expelled from the club, plans to call other clubmen as witnesses to show that Wurtenberg had kissed many of them. "In this way (Moore and his lawyer) hope to establish a lower valuation than $10,000 on the (kiss) she accuses Moore of stealing." Unfortunately for Moore, a number of the club's members "yesterday suggested extending their summer vacations and spending the (trial) out of the State." — April 20

#A fleet of three all-metal monoplanes leave New York for San Francisco with the first transcontinental airmail delivery. San Francisco's postmaster office, however, knows nothing of the endeavor and says no appropriate airfield exists in the city. —July 29

After maintaining for 50 hours that her husband had killed himself with four gunshots while she lay next to him in bed, Virginia P. Clark confesses she killed her husband, Chester J. Clark, a train worker she met through a marriage bureau. "The woman explained the murder by saying that on Sunday morning she discovered actions by her husband which compelled the thought that he was unfit to live." — August 18

Police detectives Miles Jackson and Lester Dorman and Sonoma County Sheriff James A. Petray are killed by George Boyd, member of a Howard Street gang responsible for kidnapping and raping several women. Boyd and other captured gang members are taken to Santa Rosa Jail where a mob of 2,000 makes three failed attempts over nine hours to break in and lynch them, and shots are fired between the crowd and prison guards. Because of links between the gang and boxing in the city, the police commission revokes all permits for future bouts. — Dec. 6
