State engineers report that a new high level bridge from San Francisco to Tiburon, via Angel Island, is entirely feasible from an engineering standpoint and should be studied further. Southern terminus planned between Polk and Larkin streets with connections to the planned freeways in the area. Jan. 5
The major shock, occurring at 11:45 a.m., spread momentary panic through San Francisco and East Bay, Marin County and Peninsula communities. It was felt in Sacramento and as far south as Hollister. The havoc approached disaster proportions in Daly City, where hundreds of Westlake homes were left in shambles, many temporarily unfit for occupancy. Dr. Charles F. Daily amphibious airplane flights between San Francisco and Lake Tahoe will be inaugurated May 15 by Air Dorado. Flying time between the air firm's terminal at Pier 62, near Third and 16th streets, and a seaplane terminal at Tahoe Vista, on the northern shore of the lake, will be slightly more than one hour and the one-way fare will be $22.50. Abolition of nuclear test explosions was asked by 26 San Francisco religious leaders. In a letter to President Eisenhower, four rabbis and 22 Protestant clergymen urged the President to take continued initiative in ending nuclear weapons tests and expressed concern over the international race for atomic weapons supremacy.
